This Laphroaig single malt Scotch whisky is finished in Pedro Ximinez (PX) barrels for a touch of sherry sweetness. This Laphroaig expression is an ideal choice for fans of sherry-finished whiskies, or anyone looking for something special. |Laphroaig PX begins life the way all of our Laphroaig Scotch whiskies do — on the traditional malting floor in our Islay distillery. Malted barley is gently dried over a peat-fuelled fire, which imparts a distinctive smoky ""reek"" which peated whisky is known for. Once distilled, the spirit is poured into American oak ex-Bourbon barrels where the aging process begins. |Next, it's moved into 19th Century-style quarter casks. These smaller containers allow more contact with the oak, smoothing out the whisky as it matures and lending some woody notes. When it's almost ready, it's moved into larger PX barrels. These are crafted from European oak, and were previously filled with rich, sweet and unctuous Pedro Ximinez sherry. This is the first Laphroaig to be finished in such barrels. |By combining time-honored methods with new innovations, our master distillers draw upon more than two centuries of tradition to craft our exceptional Islay Scotch.
