One allrounder, three recipes: rum
In terms of rum cocktails, there are many classics that you should definitely try – since the spirit made from sugar cane is particularly versatile due to its many varieties (from white to brown, from traditional to flavoured). Here are our three favorites. By the way, you can find even more tips on our handy recipe card, which you can download here.
Mojito
A refreshing drink that becomes a real treat when made with organic limes and fresh mint. Instead of crushed ice, you can also use whole ice cubes.
- 5 cl white rum
- 6 cl soda
- 1–2 limes
- 4 tbsp crushed ice
- 2 cl sugar syrup
- 8 mint leaves (fresh)
Cut the lime into eight segments, place in a highball glass with the sugar syrup and mint and crush with a wooden muddler. Fill the glass with crushed ice, add the rum, top up with soda, stir briefly and decorate with mint leaves and a slice of lime. Our recommendation: Añejo 3 Años Rum from Havana Club.
Mai Tai
Thanks to its bright yellow colour, this aromatic cocktail conjures up the sun of California – which is also where it was invented. A legendary and strong taste for true rum fans.
- 6 cl brown rum
- 2 cl orange liqueur
- 1 cl sugar syrup
- 1 cl almond syrup
- 2 cl lime juice (freshly squeezed)
Shake the lime juice, ice cubes, rum, almond syrup, sugar syrup and orange liqueur vigorously in a shaker. Pour into a highball glass with fresh ice, decorate with mint and serve. Our recommendation: Añejo 7 Años Rum from Havana Club.
Daiquiri
Simple, popular, world famous: a wonderful recipe that, according to legend, originated in the Cuban village of Daiquiri. Serve with a fruity sugar rim … salud!
- 5 cl white rum
- 2.5 cl lime juice (freshly squeezed)
- 2 tsp sugar
Put the sugar and lime juice in a shaker and stir until the sugar has dissolved. Add the rum and ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a pre-chilled cocktail glass (or Martini glass) through the bar strainer and decorate with a slice of lime. Our recommendation: Carta Blanca Rum from Bacardí.
