‘It comes from Tuscany, specifically from the DOCG Chianti Rufina to the east of Florence. Wine has been produced on the slopes of the Arno Valley around Castello Nipozzano, which was built in the 10th century, since the Middle Ages.
The Nipozzano Riserva is mainly made from the leading Tuscan grape variety Sangiovese and, depending on the vintage, is supplemented with smaller quantities of Malvasia Nera, Colorino, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon to give this classic wine its versatile character. The red wine initially matures for 24 months in barriques before being left to rest for three months in the bottle.
The alcohol content is 13.5%. The wine is already ready to drink, but benefits from decanting into a carafe. However, the wine can also be decanted ‘easily’: Simply pour into a glass and leave the rest of the bottle lightly closed (just pop the cork a little) for a while - the residual air in the bottle aerates and opens the wine. It can be stored in the cellar until 2028 without hesitation and will then gain even more elegance and suppleness.’

‘Colour: Ruby red with violet reflections Aroma: Initially cherry and ripe strawberry, then delicate woody notes (vanilla) and rosemary. Flavour: Round, almost opulent wine, then ripe tannins take hold after a few seconds. Pure cherry, then more red fruit and spicy notes (black pepper, rosemary). Earthy, mineral finish. This wine goes very well with Christmas goose or duck, savoury pasta dishes, lamb, stews, vegetarian dishes and the classic pecorino of the region. ’
