UPCYCLED ALCOHOL

Alcohol is a core ingredient in fragrances, enabling efficient dispersion of the scent. Traditionally, this comes from agricultural crops like sugar beet, corn, or sugarcane, which require land, water and fertilizers to grow.

Together with experts at LanzaTech, we've discovered an innovative new way to make alcohol from captured carbon emissions. Through a natural fermentation process, tiny organisms convert carbon emissions into alcohol.

This new carbon-captured alcohol utilizes near-zero water consumption and significantly reduces the need for agricultural land and fertilizers - helping to lessen the impact on biodiversity.

Let's see how it works:

Step 1 (Carbon Capture):
Through this novel technology process, waste carbon emissions, which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere, are transformed into alcohol that can be used in fine fragrances - the ultimate upcycling!

Step 2 (Fermentation):
Through a natural fermentation process, the gas is bio-converted into liquid, using nearly no water and avoiding the need for farmland.

Step 3 (Purification):
Like premium spirits, the alcohol is then distilled several times. Coty’s scientists worked alongside LanzaTech to manufacture a high-purity alcohol that meets our strict specifications for perfume-use – a landmark development.
