One classic, three recipes: whisky
When it comes to cocktails, whisky is one of the most versatile components, because no two whiskies are alike. Its flavours cover the whole range from fruity and woody to spicy and peaty. We show you how to make three classic variations. And if you always want to have the recipes to hand in your own home bar, you can download them here.
Whisky Sour
A real cocktail classic that consists of only four ingredients. Sweetness, acidity and spice form a wonderful balance.
- 5 cl bourbon whiskey
- 3 cl lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1.5 cl sugar syrup
- ½ egg white (fresh)
Pour the whiskey, lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white into a shaker and shake vigorously. Add ice cubes and shake again. Pour through a sieve into a tumbler with fresh ice. Garnish with lemon zest.
Our reccomendation: Jack Daniel's Black Label No. 7 Whiskey
Old Fashioned
Outdated? No way! This forefather of cocktails is trendy and often has various twists. The classic variant is based on bourbon whiskey, emphasising its wonderful aromas.
- 6 cl bourbon whiskey
- 0.5 cl sugar syrup
- 3 splashes of Angostura bitters
Fill a mixing glass with ice. Pour in the whiskey, sugar syrup and Angostura bitters and stir for about a minute. Pour through a sieve into a tumbler with fresh ice. Garnish with orange zest.
Our reccomendation: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey from Evan Williams.
Rusty Nail
Just a few ingredients, a complex taste and a special colour – which, according to legend, gave this wonderful short drink based on Scotch whisky its name.
- 4.5 cl Scotch whisky
- 2.5 cl Drambuie
Pour all ingredients directly into a chilled tumbler filled with ice cubes and then stir gently. Garnish with lemon zest.
Our reccomendation: Single Malt Scotch Whisky “The Week of Peat” from The Balvenie.
